Comments: Grandpa lives and works in Saudi Arabia and will
be there for two more years. Grandpa & Grandma first came to visit
when Hayden was 6 weeks old. She had a severe case of colic and couldn't
sleep. There are many pictures of my dad (full beard and glasses) asleep
with Hayden curled up asleep on his shoulder. I love those pictures. The
next time they visited was for Hayden's baptism. It was August and Grandpa
spent an entire day hunting for a baby swing to hang outside. He wanted to
swing her like Grandpas are suppose to. Photos from that decorated her
first Christmas card. The next visit was this past Christmas just before
Hayden turned two. This was a special Christmas for many reasons; it was
the first one that I spent with my father in several years. You can
imagine the overwhelming emotion I felt watching him open gifts with her
Christmas morning and how excited he was to play "blocks" with
her... he insisted on getting her cardboard blocks. It was like reliving
my past. He took her for walks in the snow and loved on her day and night.
Given the conditions in Saudi Arabia right now we want him to know that we pray for the day he's near to us and can do all the Grandpa things he wants to do with her: camping, fishing, swimming, etc. I know his assignment to Saudi Arabia was as difficult for him as it was for me. His experience this past Christmas really made him want to return home to family, and Hayden has a special way about her that draws people in. If there is any way you can incorporate some of my feelings into this gift from Hayden, I would love it.
